Album Description The debut Country album from the 8th season finalist of American Idol featuring the single "My Best Days are Ahead of Me". During his bid for the Idol title, Gokey impressed the judges with his vocal versatility, but it was his buoyant personality and perseverance in the face of adversity that earned Gokey a special place in the hearts of Idol devotees.
Album Description 2010 debut from the former American Idol contestant, who placed third in season eight on the popular TV competition. Gokey's life before American Idol embodies the themes that populate the Country music lexicon, from his humble roots in a poor but loving family to his hard-working days as a truck driver to the loss of his wife. Gokey entered the studio determined to craft a debut album filled with songs that mattered. ''I definitely have something to say with this album and I think people will recognize that,'' he says. ''Music was the catalyst that helped bring healing, a determination and a resolve. When my wife passed, I tried out for American Idol and music brought me hope. It brought me a reason to live again. Now I want to bring that into my music.''

Great debute! March 5, 2010 R. Carter 20 out of 23 found this review helpful
This album is heads above releases by other season 8 idols (Kris Allen, Adam Lambert, Allison Iraheta). Country music fits Danny's voice quite well, and his voice is absolutely incredible. Every song is good; there are no duds in this set. The songs are mostly about making a difference, being happy and affirmative, and finding joy in life, and as such, they seem to flow directly from Danny's heart, even though he did not write them. Danny could and should have a long and successful career in country music, yet his appeal definitely goes beyond that genre. This is just GOOD MUSIC. Way to go, Danny.

I was a HUGE Danny Gokey when when he was on American Idol, so I had to buy is album even though I am not a country music fan. I am so glad that I did. Danny's voice is incredible. The whole album is great. None of the songs have a heavy country twang to them, although the melodies on some of the songs are very country sounding. The lyrics tell heartfelt stories. I love the inspirational messages. I think that "I Will Not Say Goodbye" will be a big crossover hit. Danny Gokey is going to be very successful based on his debut album!
Love, love, LOVE this Danny Gokey CD! March 5, 2010 LWigington 13 out of 14 found this review helpful
Love Danny Gokey and this CD. Just a little bit of country sound and GREAT meaningful lyrics. He has such a wonderful voice and outlook on life. His passion in the songs and good outlook on life is contagious!

This is part of a great new wave of country music. I have not listened to country with any enjoyment (save for taylor swift) since I was a kid. I hope this trend continues!
Great album, you won't be disappointed!
A Well-Rounded Debut Disc From a Somewhat Unlikely New Country Upstart March 5, 2010 Jackson T. Nongyow (East Windsor, NJ) 18 out of 21 found this review helpful
Question: Do you have to be from "The South" to be country? Also, does someone from the Midwest--Wisconsin, let's say--have the right to sing in the country genre? My answers to both questions are, "no" and "yes", respectively. Danny Gokey, who is a Wisconsin native, attempts to record a country music album, and actually succeeds. His singing is genuine, as well as the production, instrumentation, phrasing and styling, and does not sound insincere unlike someone who would be a "wannabe" country artist. The opening and title track is one of the best in the album, and is instantly melodic. A.I. judge/songstress Kara DioGuardi penned "I Believe", which would make a good single. "Tiny Life"--which is in my opinion the best track and should be the second single--was penned by "What Hurts The Most" songwriter Jeffrey Steele, and has the same impact as that song. I highly recommend this album to anyone who is curious to listen to a good New Country album from a somewhat unlikely artist.
